
Sheila Malcolmson of the NDP has been re-elected as MLA in Nanaimo, keeping the seat for the party.
Malcolmson won 2,154 out of 4,342 counted votes (49.61 per cent) with 54 of 107 polls reporting.
Lia Versaevel of the Green party won 1,150 votes (26.49 per cent). Kathleen Jones of the BC Liberal Party won 1,038 votes (23.91 per cent).
As of 9:16 p.m., the NDP has won or is leading in 51 of 87 seats. The BC Liberal Party has won or is leading in 32, and the BC Green Party has won or is leading in three seats.
As of Oct. 23, 11,468 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters in the riding. There are a total of 43,375 registered voters in Nanaimo.
Provincewide, 724,279 mail-in ballots have been sent out, and there are 3,485,858 registered voters.
Mail-in ballots will be counted by hand, starting in 13 days.
