BC NDP Lana Popham re-elected MLA in Saanich South riding

Lana Popham of the NDP has been re-elected as MLA in Saanich South, keeping the seat for the party. Popham won 2,219 out of 4,307 counted votes (51.52 per cent) with 42 of 93 polls reporting.

Rishi Sharma of the BC Liberal Party won 1,089 votes (25.28 per cent). Kate O’Connor of the Green party won 999 votes (23.19 per cent).

As of 9:13 p.m., the NDP has won or is leading in 50 of 87 seats. The BC Liberal Party has won or is leading in 32, and the BC Green Party has won or is leading in four seats.

As of Oct. 23, 14,230 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters in the riding. There are a total of 38,954 registered voters in Saanich South.

Provincewide, 724,279 mail-in ballots have been sent out, and there are 3,485,858 registered voters.

Mail-in ballots will be counted by hand, starting in 13 days.

1. Lana Popham (incumbent) – NDP

Votes: 2,219 votes (51.52 per cent)

2. Rishi Sharma – BC Liberal Party

Votes: 1,089 votes (25.28 per cent)

3. Kate O’Connor – Green party

Votes: 999 votes (23.19 per cent)
