Mitzi Dean of the NDP has been re-elected as MLA in Esquimalt-Metchosin, keeping the seat for the party.

Dean won 1,117 out of 2,062 counted votes (54.17 per cent) with 30 of 80 polls reporting.

Andy MacKinnon of the Green party won 578 votes (28.03 per cent). RJ Senko of the BC Liberal Party won 330 votes (16.00 per cent). Desta McPherson, an Independent, won 37 votes (1.79 per cent).

As of 9:07 p.m., the NDP has won or is leading in 47 of 87 seats. The BC Liberal Party has won or is leading in 35, and the BC Green Party has won or is leading in four seats.

As of Oct. 23, 12,166 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters in the riding. There are a total of 37,692 registered voters in Esquimalt-Metchosin.

Provincewide, 724,279 mail-in ballots have been sent out, and there are 3,485,858 registered voters.

Mail-in ballots will be counted by hand, starting in 13 days.

1. Mitzi Dean (incumbent) – NDP

Votes: 1,117 votes (54.17 per cent)

2. Andy MacKinnon – Green party

Votes: 578 votes (28.03 per cent)

3. RJ Senko – BC Liberal Party

Votes: 330 votes (16.00 per cent)

4. Desta McPherson – Independent

Votes: 37 votes (1.79 per cent)
