Adam Olsen of the Green party has been re-elected as MLA in Saanich North and the Islands, keeping the seat for the party.

Olsen won 1,834 out of 3,498 counted votes (52.43 per cent) with 40 of 118 polls reporting.

Zeb King of the NDP won 903 votes (25.81 per cent). Stephen P Roberts of the BC Liberal Party won 761 votes (21.76 per cent).

As of 9:22 p.m., The Canadian Press is projecting the BC NDP has won a majority government. The party has won or is leading in 54 of 87 seats. The BC Liberal Party has won or is leading in 30, and the BC Green Party has won or is leading in three seats.

As of Oct. 23, 16,136 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters in the riding. There are a total of 46,285 registered voters in Saanich North and the Islands.

Provincewide, 724,279 mail-in ballots have been sent out, and there are 3,485,858 registered voters.

Mail-in ballots will be counted by hand, starting in 13 days.

1. Adam Olsen (incumbent) – Green party

Votes: 1,834 votes (52.43 per cent)

2. Zeb King – NDP

Votes: 903 votes (25.81 per cent)

3. Stephen P Roberts – BC Liberal Party

Votes: 761 votes (21.76 per cent)
