A search is underway for a missing mushroom picker.
Members with the Westcoast Inland Search and Rescue Society, Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue, and other rescue organizations are searching for a 55-year-old female mushroom picker who went missing Monday evening near the Tofino Airport.
The woman who was last seen wearing shorts and a T-shirt before she went out yesterday and rescuers say they’re worried as heavy rain and high winds are expected this evening.
Paul Berry, manager of the Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue, said the 55-year-old was supposed to return yesterday evening but never did, sparking a search effort that began later that night.
“She was supposed to be back last evening and had not been seen last night and did not return,” he said.
A ground search was conducted last night but yielded nothing.
Members from neighbouring SAR’s including the Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue are being flown into the area to help look for the missing woman.
