Police are looking a suspect after a woman allegedly saw a GoPro camera while she was using an outhouse at Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park.

Saanich police say they are searching for a suspect after a woman said she saw a GoPro camera while she was using an outhouse at Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park on Tuesday.

Police said at around 9 a.m., three women were at the park when one of the women went to use the outhouse at the south parking lot. According to police, while the woman was in the outhouse, she looked down and saw a GoPro style camera with a bright light flashing up toward her.

Police said the GoPro camera was attached to what appeared to be a selfie stick and also looked like it was coming from the washroom stall that backed onto the one the woman was in.

When the woman saw the camera, she screamed, which alerted the other two women who were waiting outside the washroom. The other women saw the male suspect flee the stall. He was last seen heading west on a trail toward Beaver Lake Road.

Saanich police officers, including the canine unit,  searched the area but were unable to find the suspect. He is described by police as a white man in his late 20s to early 30s, 5’10” tall with an athletic build. He has short dark brown hair and looked clean cut with a possible beard. The suspect was wearing a green T-shirt, darker coloured shorts and running shoes.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Saanich police at 250-475-4321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
