Saanich Police is looking for those responsible for taking a John Deere ride-on lawn mower for a slow joy ride earlier this week.

In a release Thursday morning, authorities say the mower was taken from the Gordon Head Baseball shed at Lambrick park sometime after the work day on Tuesday, and driven to the Torquay Elementary school yard.

Police say the person or persons driving the lawn mower, with a top speed of seven kilometres-per-hour, did donuts on the grass and struck two goal posts.

The mower, valued at $3,000, was found Wednesday morning by school district staff and although there was some minor damage, it was able to be driven, under police escort, back to Lambrick Park.

Saanich Police says the person or persons that stole the lawn mower committed crimes of theft and mischief, and ask anyone with information on this incident to call them at 250-475-4321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
