Just in time for Mother’s Day, online restaurant reservation platform OpenTable has released its top 100 brunch spots in Canada for 2022 and some Vancouver Island favourites are well-represented.
A total of five Vancouver Island brunch hotspots cracked the national list, which draws upon the data from more than 820,963 reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners across Canada between March 1, 2021 – Feb. 28.
In addition to the five locations on Vancouver Island, there were 28 other brunch spots highlighted in British Columbia for a total of 33 on the top 100 list. B.C. trailed only Ontario, which landed a whopping 51 brunch locations on OpenTable’s list. Rounding out the complete list, Quebec had 10, Alberta had five and Atlantic Canada had one.
“OpenTable’s 100 Best Brunch list is the perfect place for inspiration as Canadians plan to honour the mother figures in their lives,” said OpenTable spokesperson Matt David in a news release.

The list, which was presented in no particular order, featured the following five locations on Vancouver Island:
- Alpina Restaurant at Villa Eyre Resort
- The Butchart Gardens – The Dining Room
- Fireside Grill
- Glo Restaurant
- Tea at the Empress
“Whether mom is a sweet brunch person, a savoury brunch person, or a brunch-is-actually-breakfast person, start your Mother’s Day planning with the Top 100 brunch spots in Canada,” OpenTable said.
The online platform also indicated that reservations are up when compared to pre-pandemic levels seen in 2019, while also acknowledging that 40 per cent of Canadians plan to dine out this Mother’s Day.
“We are seeing pent-up demand for dining out across the country with reservations up 21 per cent compared to pre-pandemic levels,” added Davis.
