Nanaimo RCMP is asking for witnesses to come forward after an assault Monday morning left a man with serious injuries.

RCMP say responding officers found an injured 40-year-old male being treated by paramedics.

Officers determined the assault happened near a bus stop in the 6400-block of Metral Drive around 11:30 a.m.

Police say the victim was walking to a Superstore gas station when he was struck from behind.

The victim does not remember the incident well and RCMP says he could not identify his attacker nor provide a description.

Police say the man suffered fractured facial bones and a concussion.

In a release, Nanaimo RCMP says the suspect may have fled south on Metral Drive and are asking for witnesses or dashcam video that could help in their investigation.
