Mounties on Vancouver Island are searching for a man who they say walked into a home near Zeballos and pointed a loaded firearm at the occupant.

BC RCMP say that at around 2 p.m. on Sept. 4, a 42-year-old man walked into a home community of Oclujce and pointed a loaded handgun at the occupant, who was eventually able to escape unharmed.

Officers from the Port McNeill RCMP were called in to locate the suspect, which ended up leading them to nearby Zeballos. The RCMP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), Police Dog Services, and a crisis negotiator were also brought in.

However, police say that despite a significant search that included road checks being set up throughout the evening, the 42-year-old suspect has yet to be located.

“We are continuing our efforts to locate the man,” BC RCMP Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said in a press release. “He has not been charged and therefore cannot be identified, however, we want to reassure the community that the incident appears to isolated and targeted.”

Oclujce is located roughly 15 kilometres northwest of Zabellos.
