Nanaimo RCMP say a fire was intentionally set at a Dollarama store on Bruce Avenue Monday night.

Police are investigating an arson fire at a dollar store in Nanaimo’s Harewood neighbourhood.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue responded to a fire at the Dollarama store on Bruce Avenue shortly before 9 p.m. Monday.

The fire occurred prior to closing time, with smoke and flames filling the store.

Eventually, firefighters, with the help of the store’s sprinkler system, were able to extinguish the blaze.

Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP media spokespersons, said the fire was arson as evidence points it having been intentionally set. He said investigators are on scene reviewing security footage, but could not disclose any more information.

There were no injuries and the store remains closed as employees clean up.

No word on when it will reopen.
