Victoria has taken its place alongside some of the bastions of brewing, including Brussels and Berlin, in a list of the top beer cities in the world.

CNN Travel lists the B.C. capital among the top 15, alongside other cities such as Portland, Oregon, Shanghai and Melbourne.

“The beer revolution came early to Victoria, with its first brewpub opening in 1984 and the number of breweries and beer-focused outlets steadily growing since then,” the article reads.

It lists such establishments as Swans, Canoe, Hoyne and Driftwood but, as any beer lover in Victoria knows, the list could be much longer.

Other smaller cities on the list include Asheville, North Carolina and Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Tallinn, Tokyo, Rome, Lisbon, Budapest and Cape Town are also included.
