A car was fully engulfed in flames Wednesday night on Commerce Circle in Saanich. Multiple vehicles were also damaged by the heat.

Another example Wednesday night of how quickly a fire can get going in dry conditions, as a car was fully engulfed in flames in Saanich.

Saanich Fire says they were called around 5:20 p.m. to Commerce Circle where a BC Transit Handy Dart driver had parked a bus close to some hedges.

The hedges then started on fire from the heat of the vehicle’s exhaust pipe.

Nine Saanich firefighters responded to the blaze, with the driver’s own vehicle destroyed by fire.

Other vehicles were damaged by heat and officials estimate the damage at close to $40,000.

Saanich fire says leaking fuel from the car made the fire more difficult to extinguish.

Saanich police also attended and shut down Vanalman Avenue at Circle.

Crews cleared the scene about 75 minutes after the fire was reported.
