Victoria police are asking any potential victims to come forward after two random assaults were reported on Saturday night.

Police say that just after 11:15 p.m. on March 23, officers received a report of an assault near the intersection of Yates Street and Government Street.

While officers were heading to the scene, they were pulled over by another person who said they were also the victim of an assault.

Police say this person showed visible signs of injury – though they were not life-threatening – and gave officers a description of the suspect and where the assault took place.

Officers then went to the scene and arrested the suspect. Once there, the officers were also approached by the victim of the initial assault call who told them that the same suspect had also hit them in the face.

Police say they believe the two assaults were random and that the two victims did not know each other. No weapons were involved in either attack.

VicPD is now asking any witnesses or anyone who may have also been a victim of a random attack on Saturday night to come forward.

Victoria police can be contacted through the E-Comm report desk at 250-995-7654 extension 1.

Meanwhile, police say the suspect was released with a future court date.
