Victoria police are asking the public to help identify a man who’s suspected of attacking another person in an “unprovoked assault” that occurred in November.

Police say the assault occurred on Nov. 22 around 11 p.m. in the area of Kings Road and Fifth Street.

At the time, the victim told police they were walking in the area when the suspect, “without provocation, punched them in the face.”

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The assault was reported the next day, but it was nearly a month later before police asked the public for help on the matter. On Dec. 15, VicPD asked any potential witnesses or anyone with surveillance video in the area to come forward.

On Thursday, Victoria police released surveillance photos of a man who is believed to be responsible for the attack.

He’s described as standing six feet tall with a slim build. He was also wearing a green hoodie and black pants at the time. VicPD notes that the colours on the surveillance photos are distorted due to it being dark at the time.

Anyone who recognizes the man or who may have information on the assault is asked to call the E-Comm Report Desk at 250-995-7654 extension 1, or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously online or at 1-800-222-8477.
