In a quintessentially Canadian moment, a Mountie walked a horse for one-kilometre to a home this week.

The scene played out after Shawnigan RCMP responded to reports of a woman and horse walking in the travel portion of Shawnigan Lake Road near Owl Road Thursday.

She was allegedly unable to control the horse — who appeared injured.

They arrived to find the woman rider, who they say was  unable to properly care for the horse due to her level of intoxication.

A veterinarian was called in to exam the horse, who only suffered minor injuries.

Cpl. Williams of the Shawnigan Lake RCMP then volunteered to walk he animal to a residence around one-kilometre from the scene, where it could be safely housed until the SPCA could attend to follow up further.

“This is just another example of the extra lengths that our members will go to in the course of their duties to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, including four legged ones” stated Shawnigan Lake RCMP Detachment Commander Sgt. Tim Desaulniers in a statement.
