Local law enforcement agencies descended on Colwood neighbourhood in search of a suspect Sunday morning but came up empty.

At around 5 a.m., West Shore RCMP frontline officers along with the officers from the Integrated Police Dog Service “flooded” a Colwood neighbourhood to search for a suspect who had fled the scene of an ongoing VicPD investigation, according to an RCMP press release.

Details about the Victoria Police Department’s investigation were not disclosed, but RCMP say officers located the suspect’s vehicle near the Royal Roads University and that the suspect had fled prior to the vehicle being located.

However, despite significant searches of the area, the suspect has not been located.

“We understand the concern of seeing so many police officers in a quiet community on a Sunday morning,” BC RCMP Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said in the release.

RCMP say the suspect is no longer believed to be in the Colwood area and as a result officers at their West Shore detachment have concluded their search effort.

“We want to reassure the public that we believe the suspect is no longer in the area but are continuing efforts to locate him through investigative means, in partnership with VicPD,” added Shoihet.

The Victoria Police Department told CHEK News they would provide more information shortly but stressed that their investigation is not related to the recent assault of one of their officers.
