One taken to hospital following stabbing at Esquimalt High

One victim was taken to hospital following a stabbing that took place during a fight between students at Esquimalt High on Thursday.

Officers with the Victoria Police Department Esquimalt Division say they responded to a report on Thursday afternoon that one person had been stabbed at the secondary school.

Police headed to the scene and took one student into custody.

BC Emergency Health Services took one student to hospital following the incident with non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the incident, the Greater Victoria School Board took to social media to thank VicPD for the quick response and talk about the next steps being taken.

Members of the District’s Critical Incident Response Team have been deployed to support students and staff at the school,” reads a Twitter post from the school board. “Please note, this was an isolated incident. An update will be sent to Esquimalt families this afternoon.”

Police say that there is currently no known further risk to students or the surrounding community.
