Nanaimo’s city clerk says a confidential document leaked through social media contains a breach of personal information.

In a statement, the city says the “KPMG Final Report” was leaked online and contained “confidential third-party information and personal information of individuals.”

The city says it has a legal duty to take “reasonable steps to protect third-party and personal information” and is aware of information being shared with the public.

The breach has been reported by the city to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner, which the city says is already looking into previous unauthorized disclosures of personal information.

The city says disclosure of personal information without the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act authority is an offence and comes with a fine of $2,000.
