A 21-year-old man found out the hard way that it isn’t a good idea to drive with a bong between your legs.
According to a press release issued by the Oak Bay Police Department, a man driving a 2015 Nissan Leaf approached a roadblock that had been set up on Beach Drive Friday.
When an officer approached the vehicle, they noticed the motorist had a “marijuana bong” between his legs, the release notes.
Police say the officer then gave the motorist a field sobriety test for drugs, which he allegedly failed, and determined that the man was impaired by cannabis.
The driver, a 21-year-old man, was then arrested for impaired driving by drug and transported to the Oak Bay PD headquarters, where a urine sample was taken from him.
Police also say in addition to impaired driving by cannabis, the man didn’t have his driver’s licence on him.
As a result, the 21-year-old was given a $276 fine for not having a driver’s licence and a $230 fine for having cannabis in his vehicle. He was also issued a 24-hour driving prohibition.
Police say a drug recognition report was completed and will be forwarded to Crown Counsel for charges approval.
