The search for a missing woman in Nanaimo has come to a tragic end.
Mounties say the body of 48-year-old Nancy Gagne was located in the Millstone River in Bowen Park on Thursday.
Gagne was first reported missing on Feb. 1, prompting a large, multi-day search which included RCMP, Nanaimo Search and Rescue (NSAR) and the West Coast Marine Services.
Police say a team with NSAR took the lead on recovering her body from the river Thursday, with assistance from police and local firefighters. Her tattoos were then used to help identify her.
The BC Coroners Service has been notified and is continuing its own investigation into Gagne’s death, police say.
