Nanoose Bay high jumper Michael Mason finished sixth Wednesday in the final of the men’s high jump competition at the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Mason, a bronze medalist at the 2014 games in Scotland, cleared the bar at 2.24 metres before bowing out with three missed attempts at 2.27 metres.

Mason qualified for the finals with a 2.21-metre clearance Monday.

Jhango Lovett of Surrey got on the podium in the event by taking home bronze with a personal best of 2.30 metres.

Australia’s Brandon Starc won gold with a clearance of 2.32 metres followed Jamaica’s Jamal Wilson at 2.30 metres.

Wilson took silver by virtue of getting over the bar at that height in one attempt, while Lovett had two misses before moving on.

Canada has won the third most medals in seven days of competition at the games with eight gold, 22 silver and 17 bronze medals for 47 total.

Host Australia leads the way in the medal count with 145, taking 57 gold, and England has 76 podium finishes.
