The Comox Valley RCMP say a man was taken into custody without anyone being injured following a lengthy standoff on Tuesday.

Mounties say they were at the home Tuesday morning to arrest the man, who was wanted on six outstanding warrants, but that he refused to come outside.

Officers then tried to negotiate with the man, and called in a crisis negotiator to help coax him outside peacefully.

He refused to exit the home, however, and the RCMP Emergency Response Team was also called in.

Police eventually sought and received judicial authorization to enter the home and arrest the man inside, police say.

However, before officers breached the residence, the man decided to come out and surrender himself over to police.

Mounties say that no one was injured during the prolonged standoff.

“We’d like to thank residents for their patience as this was happening,” said Comox Valley RCMP Const. Monika Terragni in a release Friday.

“Although it takes some time, this is the outcome we are always striving for,” she said.
