A man who was reportedly threatening to kill police officers was arrested in Campbell River on Wednesday afternoon.

The Campbell River RCMP say they received multiple calls about a man causing a disturbance at a condo building in the 2000-block of the Island Highway throughout the day.

When officers arrived, they tried to speak with the man, but he reacted aggressively and claimed he was armed, according to police.

He then threatened to kill the officers and barricaded himself inside one of the condo units.

Mounties say further attempts to de-escalate the situation were unsuccessful, and eventually the Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team was called in “due to the potential high risk nature of the incident.”

Video of the arrest submitted to CHEK News shows a man jumping from a second-floor window as a white gas billows from the unit.

After the man drops to the ground, officers can be seen taking him into custody.

In the release Thursday, Insp. Jeff Preston, officer in charge of the Campbell River RCMP, said the arrest was carried out “without any injuries occurring.”

The suspect, a 37-year-old man, was held in custody until a court appearance Thursday.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
