An RCMP patch is seen on the shoulder of an assistant commissioner in Surrey, B.C., on Friday, April 28, 2023.

The Comox Valley RCMP say all four people who are suspected of participating in an alleged armed robbery and car chase on Monday have been charged.

The dramatic incident occurred around 10:40 a.m. on Highway 19 near Black Creek.

At the time, a witness called police saying that a vehicle was driving erratically and appeared to be chasing another vehicle.

The caller added that the pursuit may be connected to an armed robbery.

A large number of police responded to the call, including a police helicopter and the Island District Emergency Response Team.

Mounties also closed a section of Highway 19 that spanned approximately 26 kilometres, between Iron River Road and Piercy Road.

A suspect vehicle was eventually found and four suspects were arrested Monday.

Lower Mainland suspects

On Friday, police said all four of the suspects were from the Lower Mainland and had been charged with robbery using a firearm.

Two of the suspects are 18 years old, Milisav Bogetic and Leonardo Gega, one suspect is 20 years old, Sijuola Obatusa, and the fourth suspect is a 23-year-old named James Daniel.

Their next court date is scheduled for Nov. 20. None of the charges have been proven in court.

Mounties say they believe Monday’s incident was targeted.

“The successful apprehension of these offenders would not have been possible without the assistance and cooperation between the Comox Valley and Campbell River RCMP, BC Highway Patrol, the Island District Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services and RCMP Air Services,” said Const. Monika Terragni, media relations officer with the Comox Valley RCMP.
