Man in 50s dead after weekend crash on Malahat

A 53-year-old man is dead and a 58-year-old woman is in critical condition after a collision on the Malahat on Saturday.

On June 13 at around 2:50 p.m., the West Shore Municipal Traffic Unit were called to a collision involving one motorcycle.

Police said the collision took place on the Malahat near Okotoks Drive.

According to police, the driver of the motorcycle was in the northbound lane and collided with the median.

The driver of the motorcycle was identified as a 53-year-old man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger on the motorcycle was identified as a 58-year-old female who was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition.

Both the man and the woman lived on Vancouver Island.

An RCMP traffic reconstructionist also attended the scene.

Police said the northbound lane was closed for a number of hours while crews worked to clear the scene. At 6:50 p.m. both lanes were opened.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

The names of the man and the woman haven’t been released.
