One person has died and another is seriously injured following a motorcycle crash on the Malahat Saturday afternoon.
According to a media release issued by West Shore RCMP on Saturday evening, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that occurred at 2:45 p.m. on the Island Highway between Okotoks Road and Aspen Road. West Shore RCMP said the motorcycle was travelling northbound and collided with the median along the Malahat.
BC Coroners Service confirmed with CHEK News that they have been notified and are investigating. BCCS did not disclose whether the driver or the passenger of the motorcycle had died.
Previously, West Shore RCMP had said two people suffered life-threatening injuries following the crash.
The crash resulted in both northbound lanes of the Island Highway between Okotoks Road and Aspen Road being closed for nearly two hours. Eventually, a single northbound lane was reopened while southbound traffic was reduced to one lane.
Both lanes are now open according to West Shore RCMP, who said more information would be provided on Monday.
