One man is dead following a house fire in Parksville on Monday.
Firefighters from Parksville, Qualicum Beach and Errington responded to the call on Phillips Street in Parksville just before 10 a am. Monday morning.
Neighbours had noticed smoke coming from the house before they called 911.
An elderly couple lives in the home and a man was inside when the fire broke out.
“We arrived on the scene and found some smoke coming from the structure. Our crews entered the structure, extinguished a fire in the front living area,” said Parksville Fire Chief Marc Norris.
Norris said fire crews removed the occupant within a minute or so of making entry. The victim was then immediately turned over to paramedics but he did not survive.
Fire officials say the investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
