Man dies after falling off train trestle in Port Alberni: police

The body of a 61-year-old man was found at Roger Creek Park in Port Alberni on Wednesday.

The death of a man at Roger Creek Park in Port Alberni does not appear to be suspicious, RCMP said.

According to police, at around 8:47 p.m., three adolescents were walking along a train trestle when they found a backpack on the tracks. While the three adolescents were looking around for the owner of the backpack, they saw a man lying motionless below them on the creek bed. Police and ambulance went to the area.

Police said the 61-year-old man, who was from Port Alberni, had already succumbed to his injuries when emergency services arrived and had most likely died instantly when he landed on the rocks.

Port Alberni RCMP said the man’s death does not appear to be suspicious. The Port Alberni RCMP General Investigations Section and the B.C. Coroner Service are continuing to investigate the man’s death.
