Victoria Police in the 1300-block of Hillside Avenue Monday night, after responding to reports of an incident involving a dog that died.

A man arrested Monday night in connection with a dog’s killing in Victoria has now been charged.

Court documents say Brandon Norman Bartlett, a man in his late 30s, is charged with one count of killing a dog without lawful excuse.

Police took a man into custody Monday night after being called to an animal incident in the 1300-block of Hillside Avenue.

The suspect barricaded himself in an apartment for several hours.

Victoria Police said after trying to negotiate a peaceful resolution to the situation, the man exited the suite unexpectedly and refused to obey officers’ instructions.

An ARWEN less-lethal projectile was deployed and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Police said the dog did not belong to the suspect, and he is also believed to be involved in a break and enter reported by the dog’s owners earlier that day.

Victoria Police are urging the public to avoid lashing out online against the suspect and instead allow investigators to do their jobs.
