A 31-year-old man is facing a number of charges after an alleged domestic violence incident in Port Alice.

At around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Port Hardy RCMP said a woman reported that she had been assaulted on two occasions over the previous two days at a residence in Port Alice. The woman was also allegedly threatened with a firearm but was able to leave the residence.

Due to the nature of the complaint and the possibility of firearms in the residence, Port Hardy RCMP requested the Island District Emergency Response Team go to the residence with members of the local detachment.

Once officers arrived at the residence, a man came out of the property and surrendered without incident. Police got a search warrant for the property and seized firearms and ammunition.

The man, who is from Port Alice, is still in custody. He is facing numerous charges, including assault with a weapon, careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, mischief under $5,000 and several firearms offences.

The name of the man is being withheld by police until formal charges have been laid in court.
