A man was arrested after he allegedly broke into a vehicle with a pry bar, stole from a coffee shop and assaulted an officer, police say.

According to the Victoria Police Department, officers were called to a parkade in the 400-block of Belleville Street for a report of a man aggressively yelling at passersby and breaking into a vehicle.

Shortly after arriving at the parkade, officers encountered the suspect and began detaining him. It was at that point, VicPD says, that the suspect then stabbed an officer in the hand with a pry bar.

The suspect was then tackled to the ground, apprehended and arrested for break and enter. He was then transported to cells where he was held awaiting bail hearing.

VicPD says during the search of the suspect they found a number of items that were recently stolen during a break and enter of a coffee shop in the 1800-block of Fairfield Road. They also say the male suspect was in possession of a stolen bicycle which has since been returned to the owner.

The suspect faces recommended charges of assaulting a police officer with a weapon, mischief, possession of stolen property, and possession of break and enter instruments, say police.
