A man was arrested and later released on bail after allegedly breaking into a Nanoose Bay home and sexually assaulting a resident last month, according to Oceanside RCMP.

On July 30 at around 5:15 a.m., RCMP were called to the Morello Road area for a report of a break-in and sexual assault at a residence.

The suspect, a 27-year-old man, was later located and arrested at around 11 a.m., RCMP said in a news release. He was subsequently released on bail with a date in court in Nanaimo this September.

Oceanside RCMP say the investigation into the incident is ongoing and ask anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police to call the detachment at 250-248-6111, quoting file 2022-7268.

Editor’s note: RCMP previously stated the suspect was a 29-year-old man. In an update on Aug. 8, police said the suspect provided false identity information to officers and have since updated that he is a 27-year-old man. The story has been updated, and you can read the full update here.
