Victoria Fire was called to a home on Sumas Street last night for a house on fire, and the homeowner says he is grateful for the department’s quick response.

The homeowner, who did not want to be named, told CHEK News he was grateful for the fire department’s quick response.

He believes the home can be salvaged, but the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Foam from supplies of the upholstery business he operates out of his house caused large amounts of smoke, but there appeared to be little damage to the structure.

He says he was able to salvage customer belongings that were in the house at the time.

A neighbour said on Facebook she saw him try to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher but left the building with no injuries.

Victoria Police say the cause is non-suspicious and officers were on scene to help with traffic control.
