BC Ferries says two sailings between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen have to be cancelled due to high winds forecast by Environment Canada.

The company says Environment Canada’s forecast shows high winds in the Strait of Georgia, and BC Ferries’ vessel specific parametres mean two sailings cannot proceed.

The 6 p.m. leaving Tsawwassen and the 8 p.m. leaving Swartz Bay have been cancelled on Tuesday.

“If you have a booking on the 8:00 pm sailing departing Swartz Bay, you will hear from our Customer Service Centre to let you know if we can fit you on an alternate sailing later today, or if your booking must be cancelled,” BC Ferries says in a notice on its website.

Environment Canada has a gale warning in effect for the Strait of Georgia – south of Nanaimo.

The forecast is calling for southeast winds of 20 knots veering to south 10 to 20 in the evening, then back up to northwest 30 to 35 later in the evening.
