As 2020 comes to a close, the top 10 most popular baby names in British Columbia have been announced and there are some familiar favourites.
For the second year in a row, Olivia has once again taken the number one spot for the most selected name for babies born this year. For eight of the past nine years, Oliva has been among the favourite names for babies born in British Columbia.
The second and third place winners have swapped places this year. Liam is the second most popular name in 2020, as Oliver takes third.
Oliver is followed by Noah, Lucas, Emma, Theodore, Benjamin, Ethan and Charlotte, according to the Vital Statistics Agency’s preliminary figures from Jan. 1 to Dec. 17, 2020.
In 2019, Olivia was the top choice for babies born in B.C., followed by Oliver, Liam, Lucas, Ethan, Noah, William, Benjamin, Charlotte and Theodore.
Only names that occur five or more times are listed.
From Jan. 1 to Dec. 17, 2020, 39,322 babies were born in B.C, a decline from 2019, when 43,703 babies were born in B.C.
