There is some positive news from BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver in young Hannah Day’s fight against brain cancer.

Her mother says the 10-year-old from Sooke survived a risky surgical biopsy on Monday.

“She has to fight her biggest fight yet,” Brooke Ervin wrote on Facebook prior to the surgery.

“She was scared , crying , panicking to hold my hand.”

Hannah was airlifted to hospital on Wednesday after being violently ill and in severe pain.

A CT scan revealed she has a number of cancerous brain tumours.

Her mother says it is hoped Monday’s biopsy will reveal what Hannah is dealing with, and allow her to start treatment to alleviate the symptoms.

“Hannah’s alive . She did it . A huge sigh of relief,” Ervin wrote late Monday.

“They were able to cut her skull…to take 3-4 samples before her brain started to bleed. She’s in a lot of pain.”

Hannah was diagnosed with cancer as a toddler and her treatment has left her vulnerable to other diseases and cancers. This is her third type of cancer and her fifth relapse.

Ervin said she has set up a GoFundMe to ease the financial burden for her family. As of Monday evening, it has raised nearly $22,000.
