A panel of former Prime Ministers and Indigenous leaders are in Victoria to construct ideas for the future based on past rights and wrongs.

Kim Campbell, Canada’s first female Prime Minister, joins Assembly of First Nations National Chief Perry Bellegarde and Indspire President & CEO Roberta Jamieson on the panel.

Former Prime Minister Paul Martin will take part via video link.

The open forums are called “The next 150: Mindful of our past for a better future”, with topics including the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and efforts to resettle Syrian refugees across Canada.

The meetings take place throughout the weekend, with the first scheduled at the Victoria Conference Centre at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon.

They will resume discussions Saturday and Sunday mornings at the University of Victoria.
