The North Island Princess, a 62-year-old ex-BC Ferries vessel powered by two MTU V12 2000 dieseal engines can be yours for $159,000. It can carry 150 passengers and crew and has room for 38 vehicles.

For about as much as a brand new Porsche 911 Carrera, you can own a recently decommissioned BC Ferries vessel.

Parksville-based Pacific Boat Brokers is currently selling North Island Princess, an ex-BC Ferries vessel capable of carrying 150 passengers and crew as well as 38 vehicles, according to an ad on Craigslist.

The price? $159,000.

Built in 1958, the North Island Princess sailed on the Powell River – Texada route for BC Ferries until it was decommissioned in June and replaced by the Island Discovery, a new hybrid-electric ferry.

The 62-year-old steel-hull ship is powered by two 670-horsepower MTU V12 2000 diesel engines with twin disc gears, and is just over 61 metres in length, according to the brokerage firm.

Information available on BC Ferries’s website shows that the North Island Princess has a top speed of 13 knots or 24 km/h.

The vessel’s listing can be viewed on Craigslist or on the Pacific Boat Brokers website.

Pacific Boat Brokers is also selling the V2V Empress, a  242-seat aluminum catamaran that was once served as a passenger ferry operating between downtown Victoria and downtown Vancouver for V2V Vacations, which ceased operations in January.
