A popular footbridge in Nanaimo’s Bowen Park is damaged and closed to the public after someone set fire to it Monday.
Nanaimo firefighters were called to put out a fire on the bridge over the Millstone River near Bradley Street Monday morning.
Investigators say it appears to have been started by someone stuffing burning pages of a book into the deck and railing. Charred debris and the book is still at the scene. The damage to the bridge has closed it to the public as officials investigate.
