An evacuation alert has been issued to residents living in certain areas of the Cowichan Valley.

The Cowichan Valley Regional District has issued an evacuation alert to residents living in parts of Cowichan Bay and North Cowichan due to heavy rainfall that has resulted in flooding in certain areas.

The evacuation alert is in effect for residents living on or around Samuel Road, Westcan Terminal Road and Lochmanetz Road in Cowichan Bay.

The alert also applies to residents living along the Tzouhalem Road in North Cowichan.

“An evacuation alert has been issued to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should it be found necessary,” a statement on the CVRD’s website reads. “Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuation; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.”

Environment Canada has issued strong wind and heavy rainfall advisories for many communities across the Island as a pacific frontal system approached the region.
