The last pieces of the old Johnson Street Bridge will be removed next week, as the large “Dynamic Beast” crane barge returns to Victoria to finish the job it started in April.

The barge will be parked south of the new Johnson Street Bridge, blocking the marine channel from Thursday, June 7 until Sunday, June 10.

The City of Victoria says that a full closure to all pedestrian, cyclist and vehicle traffic on the new bridge will occur temporarily throughout the project next week.

Four large pieces of steel will need to be removed in total. The city plans that one-hour closures will occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on June 7th and 8th.

Closures of several hours at a time will occur on June 9th and 10th between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The public can use the Bay Street Bridge as an alternate route during the closures.

The City says they notify the public through www.JohnsonStreetBridge.com and @CityofVictoria on Twitter approximately one hour before  temporary closures take place

The lifts are weather dependent as the steel pieces cannot be lifted during high winds, If required the work could be extended if more time is needed to remove the old bridge.
