Saanich police say a driver who failed to clear their front windshield ended up hitting on of their vehicles this weekend.

On Sunday before 9 a.m. an officer parked his car in the centre median on Tillicum Road near Gorge Road West while conducting traffic enforcement.

While he was inside police say a driver veered left and suddenly struck his car.

When the officer got out police say he noticed that the other driver’s front windshield on the outside was completely covered in ice, and inside with condensation — causing the crash.

The driver was given a ticket for $109 for driving while their view was obstructed.

“This didn’t have to happen,” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades of the Saanich Police.

“We want drivers to take the extra time, the time it takes is very short. Clear all your windows… inside and outside. This was totally preventable… the car couldn’t even see a marked car stopped in the road.”

The officer suffered minor injuries, and the vehicle sustained minor damage.
