Was a black bear trying to escape the flames near Sproat Lake?

A dramatic picture from the Dog Mountain fire is going viral.

The photo, which shows a black bear near flames from the Dog Mountain fire, was taken from Sproat Lake Wednesday evening by Port Alberni resident Steve Kendall.

Kendall says the bear was actually browsing for food along the shore line and didn’t appear to be too concerned about the fire raging a few meters behind him.
