E-Comm, B.C.’s 911 service dispatcher, is warning of a potential 911 service disruption for Telus and Koodoo cell phone customers.

The company said it is receive reports of a province-wide outage impacting people calling 911 from Telus- and Koodo-registered cellular phones.

Edmonton police reported that the outage may extend even further than British Columbia, with dispatchers in the Alberta capital reporting that Telus mobility customers cannot hear 911 operators, though dispatchers can hear callers.

The Cowichan Valley Regional District sent out a push alert to residents at around 2:25 p.m. Monday, asking them to use an alternative means of contacting emergency services in the meantime, such as a landline or an alternative cellular provider.

The district sent out the alert on Alertable, an app that notifies users in particular regions of critical events such as fires and floods, or relevant day-to-day events, such as water advisories.

There is no ETA for when 911 service may be restored.
