Comox Valley RCMP arrest a man on a Canada-wide warrant on Wednesday

A Victoria man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant is now in custody after the Comox Valley RCMP successfully arrested him on Wednesday.

On December 30, 2020, Corrections Service Canada issued the parole violation warrant for the 48-year-old man. That day, frontline members of the Comox Valley RCMP entered a residence in Courtenay where police believed he was staying.

When police arrived, the man armed himself with a knife and barricaded himself inside the residence.

The Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, and members of the Crisis Negotiation Team were all deployed to the scene and worked together until the man was placed into police custody.

These are highly stressful, dynamic situations which have the potential for injury to involved parties, members of the public and police, said Inspector Kurvers, Officer in Charge of the Comox Valley RCMP.

In this case, frontline and plainclothes officers quickly ensured the incident was contained to one residence and nobody was seriously injured during the arrest – this is an ideal outcome. he added.

The man is now in custody, the RCMP did not release his name.
