Canada Day celebrations this year are returning in person, after being cancelled or moved online for the previous two years due to the pandemic.
Many municipalities on Vancouver Island are holding celebrations that have been held in previous years, while some municipalities are holding celebrations for the first time.
Here are some events taking place around the Island today:
The City of Victoria will be hosting celebrations at Ship Point, where there will be live music, a multicultural street market, and food trucks.
In Saanich, there will be celebrations at Gorge Park, with a market, art display and food vendors.
Langford will be hosting its first Canada Day celebrations at Starlight Stadium, with live music, a hot wing eating contest, and back yard games on the turf.
The Victoria Highland Games Association will be hosting celebrations at Craigflower Manor with music and dance performances.
In Nanaimo, the city will be hosting celebrations at Maffeo Sutton Park with crafts, games, and bouncy castles.
Campbell River will be hosting events around town with live music, cake and fireworks.
In Chemainus, events will be held at Waterwheel Park including live music, a giant slide, and an obstacle course.
Ladysmith will host events at Transfer Beach Park with games, live music, and a scavenger hunt.
Duncan’s events will take place in Charles Hoey Memorial Park with live music.
