CHEK Media is launching a new show, This is VANCOLOUR with Mo Amir – on TV, CHEK+ and as a podcast.

The show will air at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov 21.

Mo’s This Is VANCOLOUR podcast has won a huge following with its refreshing and engaging approach to politics, culture and current affairs.

He calls it “a chaise lounge, a confessional, and a barstool to parse through the uncomfortable truths and absurd realities of cultural and political life in British Columbia with some of the province’s most influential people.”

He will interview politicians, entertainment figures, newsmakers “and anybody who has a compelling or engaging story to tell.”

Calling himself “curious, emotional, and obnoxiously critical,” Mo is also an opinions columnist for Vancouver is Awesome and a recurring “Soapbox Social” panelist for CBC’s On the Coast with Gloria Macarenko.

Mo previously appeared on CHEK’s #BCPoli Live, a political recap show in the run-up to the 2021 federal election.

Rob Germain, general manager of CHEK Media, says Mo Amir is a perfect fit for a station that is committed to producing original programming for Vancouver Island, Vancouver and British Columbia.

“We are an independent, employee-owned station and we celebrate independent thinking. There will be nothing quite like this on TV, and we’re delighted Mo is joining us.”

This is VANCOLOUR will be recorded at the Oh Boy studios in downtown Vancouver where Donnie and Dhali — The Team is based.

Mo started his independent podcast, This is VANCOLOUR, in 2018 as a passion project to explore Vancouver’s culture and politics. Guests have included the likes of John Horgan, Christy Clark, Jagmeet Singh and Jody Wilson-Raybould.

With his new show, he wants to make magic by being insightful and informative, while still being entertaining.

“I just want This is VANCOLOUR to create engaging content that is accessible, provocative, and truthful. CHEK wants me to do that and they’ve deployed the resources to share the journey with me, with the investment of time and people that I simply couldn’t match on my own,” he said.

“Neither CHEK nor myself are trying to replicate what anyone else is doing; we’re committed to creating something fresh and we’ve done it together before. In my mind, we were just getting warmed up over the federal election.”

CHEK will also be launching a new ten-part cross-Canada travel series called DownieLive Travels by Train.

Host Michael Downie is a popular YouTuber, based in Vancouver. Downie has 277,000 subscribers to his channel, and his most popular videos have well over one-million views each.
