Sidney/North Saanich RCMP is issuing a warning to the public about a suspicious man who slowed and offered a teenaged youth a ride.

The incident took place on the afternoon of November 8, 2021, when a teenager was reportedly walking near the bus stop at the Panorama Community Centre in North Saanich.

The parents of the teenager, who reported the incident to police, told officers that a man approached the teenager driving a red Mitsubishi SUV and offered him a ride.

Police say that the man in the vehicle reportedly had a female passenger as well.

After the teenager ignored the man, he eventually drove away without further incident. During the incident, a license plate number was not obtained.

Police are describing the suspicious man in the vehicle to be approximately 40-50 years old with a thin build, spiked blonde hair and crooked yellow teeth.

The woman was described as being 40-50 years old as well and wearing colourful clothes at the time of the incident.

Police add that the red Mitsubishi, which is possibly a 2010 model, was described as having scratches on the doors.

This incident came after a similar one was reported to police where a teenage youth was grabbed near East Saanich Road and Cooperidge Drive in Central Saanich. At this time, police do not have a definitive link between these two events but are advising the public to be extra vigilant when walking alone and warning not to accept rides from unknown people.

Any member of the public that has knowledge of this event or has experienced a similar situation is being asked to call the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP at 250-656-3931.
