Gigi was shown being abused in Snapchat videos in November.

The BC Prosecution Service says it is staying charges against a 20-year-old man in a cruelty case that involved a video showing a Duncan cat being shaved and drugged.

Last November, a 20-year-old man, a 17-year-old teenage boy and a 16-year-old teenage girl were charged with causing an animal to suffer Snapchat videos showing a cat owned by a Duncan family being shaved appeared.

The cat, named Gigi, was later recovered and returned to her family. Tests by a veterinarian showed the animal had also been drugged.

Crown prosecutors have stayed charges against the 20-year-old man but the charges against the two teens are proceeding.

The prosecution service said the decision to stay the charges were made after further information was received by the prosecutor and reviewed along with the rest of the materials from the file. The prosecutor concluded the charge approval standard could not be met.
